The Twins finished last season 51-111 with the worst record in baseball. They brought in a new GM and a new coaching staff. Starting with new Hitting Coach Mark McGwire coming over from the Rangers and Scouting Director Andrew Friedman formerly of the Blue Jays on November 11th, the team went through a large overhaul of all coaching staff, including MLB manger Russell Branyan looking to make finish his first season managing in the MLB after a 34-game stint in Tampa Bay. Brothers was acquired by the Astros as part of an April attempt to propel the team into contention for a wild card spot. The contending hasn’t happened for the Astros, and thus Brothers along with Romo and Pineda (both also acquired in the buying frenzy), have been placed on the block.
In short, any team in contention would be upgrading their ‘pen by acquiring the lefty, but the teams listed above are particularly short/weak on lefty bullpen options. However if the Rockies stay hot and continue to win games, they may need to reverse their approach and think about holding onto their best performer. January 31, 2019: Rumors have been swirling in and around MLDSB front offices the past couple days that a possible major trade between the Houston Astros and the Boston Red Sox could be shaping up. A league insider, who chose to remain anonymous, tipped us off that the discussions were happening but didn’t give much detail as to who could be involved.
