Major Trade Deadline Trade!

The Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers completed a huge deal late last night and just hours before the 2014 non-waiver trade deadline that has the MLDSB world rockin’!  It had been believed that the Rockies had finished wheeling and dealing after acquiring young SP Jameson Taillon from the Pittsburgh Pirates just the day before but apparently the Rockies had one more player they had put on their radar to help boost the team’s chances to compete for a wildcard and maybe even the NL West title and that player was SP Zack Greinke.  Greinke had been acquired last season in a trade that sent Troy Tulowitzki to the Dodgers but quickly the teams backed out of the trade.

The Dodgers have been looking to put a potent bat and glove at the hot corner all season and with Nick Punto not doing...

Rockies Get Their Man!

The Colorado Rockies have been busy all season totally revamping their club after a very disappointing start to the 2014 campaign in which the team and fans expected to compete for the NL West title after winning the 2nd wildcard spot last season.  After #1 starter Kris Medlen went down in the first inning of the first spring training game, it was clear that the current team composition was not going to make the team a contender.  At one point in May, the team found itself holding up the entire league at the bottom of the power rankings, holding the #30 ranking.  GM Stamey had had enough and decided to clean house and bring in players that wanted to play...

Mets Mid-Season Report

The New York Mets struggled to a 40-55 win record through the first half of the season. Despite solid starting pitcher, the bullpen and offense have been inconsistent at best and mediocre for the larger part of the season. A mid season trade to bolster the lineup, call ups from the farm and a shake up in the coaching staff has led to a rough beginning to 2014.

Young pitching led by first time all-star Matt Harvey and ROY candidate Zack Wheeler has kept the team afloat. Harvey led the team with a 2.83 ERA despite only having a 7-8 record. Wheeler has been the most fortunate of the group, leading the team with 13 wins and 133 K. Drew Pomeranz has been trending downward after a solid April and May, but has looked the part of a solid part of the future of the Mets staff...

Royals Mid-season Report

It’s been another year of disappointment for the Kansas City Royals. Poised for a run at the playoffs, the Royals entered July 15 games under .500. Many in the organization were still optimistic about the team that had been assembled, but the price of keeping the same team on the field for next season was going to be more than David Glass and the ownership would be able to handle. To take the team in a new direction, the Royals brought in a new GM...

Mariners Mid-Season Report

The Seattle Mariners are in a battle with the Oakland A’s and the Los Angeles Angels for the AL West title; as evidenced by a recent 22 inning affair with the A’s this war is going to be fought to the end. The Mariners enter the All Star break tied for the best record in the American League at 60-35. Pitching and defense are highly contributing factors to that record. The M’s have a 3.36 ERA which is second best in the league, with the bullpen posting a league best 2.41 ERA and anchored by Tom Wilhelmsen who has 30 saves and a 1.67 ERA. Perhaps the best story out of the bullpen is Charlie Furbush who has a 0.94 ERA in 47 2/3 innings of work and has not allowed an earned run in his last 20 appearances...

DBacks All-Star Break Update

After an offseason that left fans wondering about the wisdom of trading face of the franchise Paul Goldschmidt at the same time slugging C/1B Mike Napoli was allowed to leave as a free agent, the Diamondbacks got off to a slow 4-11 start. The whispers began that new GM Matt Book might be fired before the end of the year. Fans and ownership questioned the wisdom of losing not just those two, but also Brandon McCarthy, Cody Ross, Jason Kubel, Connor Gillaspie, and David Hernandez in a series of cost-cutting moves. But the Diamondbacks have since rounded into form, going 50-31 since that point and are ready for a second-half playoff push. Currently sitting just half a game out of the wild card and 4...

Rangers All-Star Break Update

Why don’t we keep this short and simple. To win you need pitching and my team quite simply has not pitched well at all. Cosart, Ogando, and Rosenthal were huge disappointments which led to 2 of them being replaced and moved into the ‘pen. The Rotation should be, dare I say terrific, during the 2nd half of the season with Kershaw, Bumgarner, Darvish, and the lone pitching star of the first half Neftali Feliz now manning most of the team’s starts.

On offense, the team has excelled led by perhaps the best players in the leagues at their respective positions in Jesus Montero and Jurickson Profar. The team has also received solid performances from Justin Morneau, Mitch Moreland and Ryan Gennett.

The team is heading into the All-Star break 10GB out of a playoff spot and in dire need of a hot st...

Red Sox All-Star Break Update

After the 11-3 start to the season the Red Sox thought they had an excellent shot at winning the division. But the 32-49 record that followed was probably more indicative of the real talent and enthusiasm level of the team than the first 14 games. Early in the season the Sox attempted to bolster the hitting component by acquiring slugger Paul Konerko who had a .938 OPS with the Brewers. But once he donned the old style B on his cap his numbers promptly dropped off to .776 OPS.

Showing no signs of improvement on July 3 the Red Sox shipped the face of the team, Dustin Pedroia, to Seattle in exchange for Jose Altuve and Ji man Choi, their current number 4 prospect. Altuve has posted an .893 OPS while Choi has a more modest .772 OPS in AAA Pawtucket.

The very next day the Red Sox dealt staff ...

Yankees All-Star Break Update

Here we are at the halfway point of 2014. It has been a struggle to say the least and GM Neizman is hanging onto his job by a thread. The Yankees are hoping to play .500 ball in the second half despite its starting pitcher woes. No SP has an ERA below 5.00. You can’t win with that kind of pitching.
