Washington’s owner was AWOL during the off-season and FA. When he emerged from his work imposed sabbatical the season was about to start. To prepare for a playoff run he did what most elite GMS do. 1) Canned his manager before the start of the season and brought in a journeyman whose main talent was not ticking off his star players. 2) signed a bunch of retreads and FA castoffs. 3) Claimed his number 3 starter off of waivers. 4) Traded away his farm system (And likely AL ROY) for two Center Fielders.
