Un-four-gettable: Rollins Hits for Cycle

“To hit for the cycle” is one of the rarest of feats in a baseball game. This occurs when a player hits a single, double, triple and home run in the same game, getting every type of hit possible. Jimmy Rollins grabbed a piece of baseball history today when he hit for the cycle. Rollins went 4 for 4 with 4 RBI and 2 runs scored against Minnesota, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 12-1 win at Target Field.

“I felt comfortable at the plate in a way I haven’t felt all season,” Rollins said after the game. “It was like they were throwing beach balls at me. The ball seemed that big to me. And it just floated in.”

Jimmy Rollins doubled in the 1st, walked in the 3rd, hit a GRAND SLAM off Casey Fien in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and walked in the 9th.

This year Rollins is...

AL Best Hitter Trophy Goes to Pujols

Saturday, June 1st, 2013

Albert Pujols received the American League Batter of the Month trophy earlier today for his efforts at the plate this last month.

“He might be getting older,” Los Angeles‘s manager told reporters, “But he’s been around long enough to know what it takes to put a stretch such as this together… and he doesn’t keep that to himself. He’s always talking to the younger guys in the clubhouse helping ’em any way they’ll let him. Albert’s value to our team goes farther than the numbers he puts up on the field.”

To win the honor Pujols put up a .310 batting average, 10 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 27 times in May.

This season Pujols is batting .301 with 66 hits, 16 home runs, 49 RBIs, .392 OBP and has scored 42 runs.

Tulo for Greinke! Say What?!

In what may be the most shocking move in the young history of MLDSB, the Colorado Rockies have shipped the face of the franchise and arguable the most popular Rockie in team history, Troy Tulowitzki, to the hated division foe, the Los Angeles Dodgers for one of the top pitchers in all of MLDSB, SP Zack Greinke.  Desperate for a great arm to compliment the decent arms in the starting rotation, the Rockies decided that they had sufficient hitting to offset the loss of Tulowitzki to acquire Greinke who has been incredible so far in the 2013 campaign.  Other players were involved in the trade including the Rockies getting cash back from the Dodgers but clearly the key to this trade involved these two outstanding players.

GM Dan Stamey was asked at the news conference last night during the ...

Will Niese Save The Rockies?

The Colorado Rockies traded away their future for a chance to win now, trading top prospects 3B Nolan Arenado, CF David Dahl, SP Drew Pomeranz and veteran SP Jeff Francis to the New York Mets to acquire SP Jonathan Niese.  Niese instantly gives the Rockies starting rotation a solid #2 or #3 starter and allow the Rockies to send recently acquired Dan Straily to AAA Colorado Springs to allow him to mature into a major league starter.  Niese also adds a second lefty to the rotation along with #1 stater, Jorge De La Rosa.

In addition to Niese, Colorado acquired veteran reliver Scott Atchison.  The 37 year old is a solid addition to the bullpen and he should help stablize what is currently a shaky bullpen, at least after one week of the 2013 season.

League Presidents Announced

Though there were plenty of qualified candidates, the league commissioner has made his decision on who will serve as the league presidents for the 2013 – 2014 MLDSB season.  Will Herbert, GM of the New York Mets will serve as the NL President and Matt Byrd, GM of the Texas Rangers will serve as the AL President.

The two of them along with Rob Tomlinson, the Assistant Commissioner serve as the league accountability team as honesty and integrity are two very important keys to a successful league.  They will promote league activity as well as be the first line of defense for disputes involving teams in their leagues.

Congratulations to Matt and Will!
